A PUB has been told it must install CCTV in order to retain its licence.
Harrogate Borough Council's licensing sub-committee made the decision yesterday after reviewing the licence of the Little Wonder pub, in Ripon Road, Harrogate.
The committee gave the pub a licence last September but was asked to review the decision by the police who were concerned about crime and disorder, and the number of underage people in the pub.
At yesterday's meeting, councillors decided to amend the conditions of the licence to ban anyone under 18 from the premises during opening hours and to make sure CCTV cameras are installed to cover the inside of the pub, the main entrance in Ripon Road and the car park.
Councillor Bob Nash, chairman of the committee, said the pub has been taken over by new owners who plan to spend more than £250,000 refurbishing the pub and making it food-orientated.
He said: "We welcome this investment and change of direction for this property.
"This is the first time that a licence has been varied since the new laws came into effect late last year.
"We hope that it sends out a strong message. We take issues of crime and disorder very seriously, especially when it involves young people."
