A TOWN council's annual civic ball has raised a record amount of money for the mayor's charity campaign.
Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Val Raw, hosted Great Aycliffe Town Council's civic dinner dance at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on February 10.
The event raised £2,612 in aid of the mayor's nominated charity during her year in office, The Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland and other good causes in the town.
Councillor Raw said the event, which included a tombola, raffle, bottle draw and bike draw, was a huge success and raised more money than ever for the campaign.
She thanked local people, groups and businesses for their support, particularly Barclays Bank, which match-funded the proceeds from the evening, and George Rawlings, who donated the mountain bike.
