SMALL businesses are being offered tips on how to win contracts from the public sector.
An event in Thirsk next month, Selling to the Public Sector, aims to explain the procurement needs of public organisations.
It will feature a demonstration of how to use Internet-based e-procurement and offers free access to a wireless broadband network for the duration of the event.
The county council alone spends about £240m each year on goods and services but, according to Business Link York and North Yorkshire, many small firms remain unsure of how to tender for public sector contracts.
Councillor Carl Les, the county's executive member for corporate services, said: "The Government is keen to encourage the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in the public sector marketplace. The event will be very informative and will give small firms a real insight into public sector procurement."
The event takes place on Friday, March 3, at Thirsk Racecourse. The entrance fee is £20, plus VAT. Bookings can be made online at www.here4 business.co.uk or by calling Business Link York and North Yorkshire on (01904) 686000.
