RESIDENTS hope an attempt to extend hours for drinking, live music and dancing at a football ground's function rooms will be blocked.
Newcastle Football Club has applied to extend its drink and entertainment licence at its St James' Park ground until 3am, seven days a week.
The existing licence allows entertainment and drinks to be served until 1am from Monday to Saturday, and until 10.30pm on Sunday, in the ground's functions rooms.
The club has also applied for later functions up to 12 times a year.
A number of nearby residents are opposing the application, with backing from three city councillors.
They argue the venue is near residential areas and late drinking at the ground has been the source of previous friction.
The club said it would comply with licence requirements to prevent nuisance and disorder.
