GREEN-thinking householders are being encouraged to do more home-composting - on the cheap.
Cut-price compost bins are being sold through Hambleton District Council for £6 - £44 less than shop prices.
The authority joined forces with suppliers Blackwall several years ago to encourage as many householders as possible to think of composting as another way to recycle household waste.
Thousands have already got compost bins - and it is hoped more will sign up because of the new offer.
By placing all waste food, garden rubbish, shredded cardboard and newspaper in the bin and adding a good mixture of materials they can supply a constant source of nutritious compost within six months.
Made from recycled plastic, this year's offer features a 330-litre bin, which can only be bought by mail order by Hambleton residents. To order call 0870 849 4866.
