CHILDREN were helped to keep quiet during a sponsored silence by taking part in a story-writing competition.
Pupils at Aiskew Leeming Bar Primary School joined in Macmillan Cancer Relief's latest fundraising event, called The Big Hush.
As well as keeping quiet, the children wrote stories, with best writers receiving book tokens.
The winning stories will now be entered into a national competition.
Headteacher Neil Farmer said: "They did really well on the fundraising side and the quality of the stories was very good as well.
"The real enthusiasm with which the children took part was brilliant to see."
The children were given a talk about the disease and about the work of Macmillan Cancer Relief.
