SPORTING youngsters proudly showed off a host of medals and trophies after their success at a gymnastics competition.
The 24 children from Thornhill Primary School showed a real talent for the sport when they competed against 250 youngsters from primary schools throughout the south Durham area this week.
The under-nine girls' team, under-nine boys and under-11 boys all won the overall team trophy for floor and vaults in their section.
Chelsey Corbertt won an individual gold medal for the floor and vault for the girls under nines, while Hannah Mottram won gold for the same events for the girls under 11.
Matthew Lovegreen won silver in the under-nine boys' event, Jayne Peaker won bronze in the girls under-11 and David Churm won bronze for the boys' under-11 section.
Headteacher at the school, Sally Clough, said the whole school was thrilled with the youngsters' performances.
She said: "They have done fantastic really. It is a massive achievement. We are lucky that we have the expertise of our gymnastics teacher Mrs Redfearn who even gives up her spare time to run a class after school.
"The children really enjoy themselves and they had a great time on the day. To come back with all these medals and trophies is a bonus.''
