YOUNG people in remote areas of North Yorkshire are benefiting from a pioneering moped loan scheme.
Funded by the county council and strategic partnerships, Wheels 2 Work has so far helped 400 people overcome the barrier of lack of transport in getting a job, training or work-based learning.
Peter Oxley, rural transport co-ordinator, said that as a result of the scheme, many had taken up apprenticeships.
People pay £2.50 a week for up to six months, by which time they are able to buy their own transport from their earnings.
Mr Oxley said: "We operate 23 mopeds in areas where often there is no public transport. It has made a tremendous difference to the quality of life for many young people."
