POLICE in Bishop Auckland may launch a crackdown against cyclists riding on footpaths after complaints from residents.
Youths are reportedly cycling on pavements, while some ride along Newgate Street against the flow of traffic.
PC Bill Lavery said local people had made police aware of the problem, and said he was keen to make people aware it is against the law.
He added that action could be taken against those who flout the rules.
He said: "It's causing a nuisance and is also an offence."
