THE glamour of India's film industry was brought to life in the North-East yesterday.

Bollywood Dreams in Sunderland was staged in the city's museum and winter gardens as part of a month of themed activities.

During the day, there was a series of workshops where the public were given the chance to learn about everything from dancing to music.

Two artists specialising in the Indian art of applying henna to hands displayed their skills and Bollywood costumes were available for children and young people to try on.

The event was one of a series of special days arranged to coincide with the museum's exhibition, Cinema India, the Art of Bollywood, organised by the V&A, London.

Jennie Beale, assistant learning officer, said: "We have a huge variety of activities planned. There is something to suit all ages and we have worked with a fantastic group of artists and musicians to put the programme together."

The next event is an evening of music and entertainment by Tarang, the UK's leading British Asian orchestra.

Then on Saturday, February 25, Hartlepool Art Gallery will be the venue as visitors are invited to help make a banner for the Painted Prayer Festival.

Information and free tickets for the Tareng concert are available by telephoning 0191-553 2323.
