Staff in the two divisions of BiB Group, in Darlington, have been awarded certificates of environmental accomplishment from Shred-it, the world's leading document destruction company.

The staff have saved the equivalent of 58 trees over the past year by cutting back on the paper they use. The team at BiB Underwriters, in Valley Street, saved 25 trees while staff at BiB Darlington, in Northgate, recycled enough to save another 33 trees. The initiative has paved the way for the company to become virtually paperless later this year.

One of the region's leading independent garage groups has received four nominations in an UK automotive awards event.

Hodgson Newcastle, which operates dealerships at Silverlink, North Tyneside, and next to the MetroCentre, Gateshead, has been nominated for three categories in the AM Awards 2006.

Ian Butcher, of the North-East's Go-Ahead Group, has been named among the top UK finance directors in the FD's Excellence Awards, organised by the CBI and Real Finance magazine with Bank of Scotland Corporate. Mr Butcher is shortlisted for the FTSE 250 FD of the Year award category. The awards will be held in London on April 6.
