YOUNG footballers tackled their most hair-raising challenge yet to raise much-needed funds for charity.

Six students at Northallerton College agreed to undergo a sponsored body wax to raise money for the Friarage Hospital.

Five of the football team agreed to have their legs done while one had his back stripped raw by two beauty therapists from Saks Salon.

The event is expected to raise up to £800, which will be donated to the cancer unit at the Friarage Hospital.

Organiser Clare Duffy said: "The boys screamed their heads off.

"I think they would score it eight out of ten for pain."

Fellow student Kirsty Thompson added: "It was really good fun watching the boys suffer. I think they now have a bit more respect for women now they know what we go through."

Both students are on the fundraising committee for the annual leavers' ball.

"The body-waxing generated so much interest we decided the money would be better off going to charity," said Clare. "We couldn't have done it without the help of Saks, who gave their time free of charge."
