A TWO-YEAR campaign to make Northallerton a Fair Trade Town came to an end on Saturday when Richmond MP William Hague handed over the official certificate.
Northallerton was the first town in North Yorkshire to achieve fair trade status after meeting five targets. They included the town council serving Fair Trade tea and coffee at its meetings and Fair Trade products being available in the required number of shops and cafes.
The town also had to involve businesses, schools, community organisations and trade unions in the campaign.
On Saturday, Mr Hague was at Northallerton Town Hall to present the certificate to the leaders of the campaign.
