VISITORS to Preston Hall Museum, in Eaglescliffe, enjoyed pictures of the past while learning about the great rambling routes along the River Tees.
The Rambles by the River Tees exhibition runs until Saturday, April 22, at the museum's Focus Gallery.
It is a collection of photographs taken by Michael Heavisides in 1905 to illustrate his book of the same name.
The book acted as a guide to Heavisides' favourite rambling routes along the River Tees, and each photograph and extract illustrates a separate ramble.
Kate Mahaffy, exhibition co-ordinator for Stockton Borough Council's museum service, said: "The photographs retain their wonderful sense of the past and his writings recount the history of the area as well as his feelings for his surroundings in his own personal style.
"We hope they can provide a fascinating snapshot of what life was like alongside the River Tees one hundred years ago."
