Bishop Auckland went out of the UniBond League Chairman's Cup when they were beaten 2-0 on the plastic pitch at Woodley Sports on Saturday. But even though they lost, manager Brian Healy was encouraged by the team's effort.
"Once we got used to the pitch, then we did well," Healy said, "But by the time that happened, we were two down. It was like a friendly at times, and I thought we bossed the game in the second half."
Woodley's goals came in the first 25 minutes. Carlos Meakin headed in a corner after 11 minutes, then Gavin Salmon got a second from ten yards.
Bishops improved in the second half, and Robbie Clarkson hit the post, and late in the game Simon O'Shea hit the crossbar.
Blyth are through to the semi-finals of the Chairman's Cup after they beat Ossett Albion thanks to a second half goal from Scott Bell.
Whitby went out to a late goal at Farsley Celtic in the quarter-final of the league cup, Danny Brunskill scoring their equaliser.
In the Premier Division, Gateshead lost 2-1 at Prescot Cables after Adam Johnston gave them an early lead.
