A GROUP from north Durham which enjoys nature walks is looking for more members.
Consett and Vale of Derwent Naturalists Field Club go on countryside walks all over the region.
The club was founded in 1907 to enable the coal miners and steelworkers to get away from the heavy industry sites and associated dust and grime. It was also formed to educate people in local geography, history, architecture, flora and fauna.
Club member Lawrence Welsh said: "The same principles are followed today, though with a subtle change of emphasis.
"Apart from the educational aspect, the club plays an important role in the community by the promotion of lifestyles by taking regular exercise and social integration."
The club has 16 organised walks each year covering County Durham, Cleveland, Cumbria, Northumberland and Yorkshire between March and October.
The walks take place every other Saturday, starting on March 25 in Sunderland, Seaburn and South Shields. There are three levels of guided walks of three, six and 13 miles in length.
A coach will pick people up at various locations in Lanchester.
