A GANG of armed robbers who sprayed noxious gas into the faces of security guards may have carried out three similar robberies in the North-East.
Detectives investigating three robberies across Tyneside are exploring the possibility they may be connected.
They took place at Newcastle, Gateshead and Wallsend between January 26 and 30 and all involved security guards having substances, possibly ammonia, sprayed in their face.
Securicor has offered a cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers.
Detective Inspector Ged Noble, of Gateshead Police, said: "We are exploring possible links between the three robberies because of similarities between the crimes.
"A substantial amount of cash has been stolen in all three robberies and three security guards have been left extremely shocked after having what we believe to be ammonia sprayed in their face. One of these guards may have suffered permanent damage to one eye. "
