DIVISION ONE: Nestfield exacted revenge for their cup defeat a fortnight ago when they took all three points in the league meeting between themselves and Cleveland Bridge.
The 5-2 score-line to Cleveland in the cup-tie was reversed as Nestfield maintained their position at the top of the league. Elsewhere Smith and Allan made sure they did not lose ground on Nestfield by inflicting a 6-0 defeat on Shuttle and Loom, in an explosive encounter which saw both sides down to ten men by half-time, to stay second.
However both Nestfield and Smith and Allan are looking over their shoulders as East End overtook Spraire to move ominously into third place, by defeating bottom side Hurworth Albion 5-0. The only other game scheduled in the first division, between Haughton WMC and MN All Stars was postponed.
SECOND DIVISION: Model T 's game against Killinghall Arms got off to an explosive start when ,following good approach work from Richard Bestford down the right, Ste Appleby
opened their account after only 20 seconds of the match slotting in from ten yards. Their advantage was quickly doubled when Mark Finn raced clear and finished well and it was 3-0 when more excellent work from Bestford on the right resulted in Finns second goal of the game, a fine diving header. Killinghall were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty and Adam Flynn stepped up to reduce the arrears.
However Model T responded by forcing a corner, taken by Mike Bestford, which resulted in defender Steve Thompson finishing well with a glancing header. However not to be deterred Killinghall again struck straight back when a superb passing move released Chris Thomson who chipped the ball over keeper Ian Potts and into the net to make the score 4-2. After a scrappy period Model T made sure of the three points when Mike Bestford added his name to the list of scorers with a neat finish ,making the final score 5-2
Goodfellas hosted BSC All Stars and got back to winning ways with a well deserved victory even though the score line was 0-0 after seventy minutes. Mark Corry scored the first to break the deadlock deftly chipping the ball over the goalkeepers head from the by-line. Strike partner Michael Paterson added the second after a neat passing interchange led to him rounding the keeper and coolly finishing. Further goals from Corry and Wes Tarn in the closing minutes gave the home side a 4-0 victory Haughton met Tanners Hall and came away with a narrow 3-2 victory to enhance their promotion hopes. Chris Lockerbie, Wayne Turner and Karl Lockwood were all on target for the home side while a couple from Don Eeles finished off the scoring. Turks Head beat AFC Brinkburn 5-0 while the match between the Northern Echo and RAC was postponed.
THIRD DIVISION: The Royal British Legion met Darlington Cricket Club in a rearranged match hoping to keep the pressure on leaders Hole in the Wall and ended up scoring four goals without reply. Their attack was well led by man of the match Martin Scott who scored twice, with Graham Blenkinsopp and Michael Thompson also getting their names on the score sheet.
The third division's meanest defence met the division s top scoring outfit as Brown Trout maintained their one hundred per cent start to 2006 with a hard fought 2-1 victory over fellow promotion seeking rivals Copper Beech. However it was the Beech that began the brighter and took an early lead as Kevin Myers nodded home a free-kick. With Dale Sanderson and Lee Stainsby outstanding Trout came back into the match and were level when veteran Dave Abdale rolled back the years, equalising with a stunning half volley from outside the penalty area. With the scores still level midway through the second half, Mark Taylor finally broke the deadlock to ensure Brown Trout maintained their third place position.
The New All Stars played host to Affinity Healthcare and, despite Affinity's never say die attitude lasting to the final whistle, came out 6-0 victors. Goals from Adam Sams(2), Ben Aisbitt(2),Danny Wilson and James Goslin sealed the points in an all round excellent display from All Stars, although special mention went to the outstanding Andy Ward in the Affinity goal.
Hole in the Wall maintained their place atop the division with a 2-1 victory over Sherwoods, a game they themselves said was their toughest of the season so far. Hole in the Wall opened the scoring with a tap in from Aaron Radstock after a Tony Moorcroft flick only for the determined Sherwoods side to equalise. The winner came after a good run from Sid Seddon who crossed the ball for Radstock to score his, and his sides, second .In the other game played last Sunday Peladon lost at home against Northgate CIU, the final score being 3-1 to the away side
