REMARKABLE residents have been rewarded for their efforts in a special citizenship awards scheme.
Two of Ferryhill's most dedicated volunteers were presented with certificates and crystal glasses in recognition of their work with local charities.
Nora Varty, 84, is a stalwart of St Luke's Church and the Women's Institute, who goes out of her way to visit the sick, taking along the chocolate cake for which she is renowned.
And John Oyston is well known for his work with both the church and chapel, collecting for various charities and delivering two of the town's magazines regardless of the weather.
Both were honoured during a recent charity dinner hosted by Ferryhill Town Mayor Councillor Julie Bainbridge.
