MIDDLESBROUGH boss Steve McClaren has reacted angrily to suggestions midfielder George Boateng has agreed to a lucrative new contract that has infuriated his team-mates, writes PAUL FRASER.
A report yesterday morning claimed Boateng is about to pen a four-and-a-half-year deal that is worth £45,000 a week - amounting to a whopping £10.5m.
It also claimed Boateng's new contract had annoyed the rest of the squad, but McClaren insists that is not the case.
"You can't take articles like that seriously, they never get the facts right," said McClaren. "He's not signed a contract, certainly not worth that and apparently there's unrest about the players.
"We would all love George Boateng to sign a new contract, he's one of our best players. We want him to stay here and he is very close to agreeing a new contract.
