THE Middlesbrough fan who stormed on to the pitch and threw his season ticket at manager Steve McClaren in disgust at his side's 4-0 defeat has spoken about his frustration at the team's performance.
Mark Davison, 33, said emotions took over when Aston Villa's fourth goal went in. He hurled his £390 season ticket at McClaren.
He said: "Boro had no fight, no nothing. When I saw the fourth goal go in, it was too easy for Villa. It did break my heart seeing it. The emotions took over and I just went.
"It triggered something. I started running through the stadium and saw a gap and just went. I was cut up with anger. I was angry with McClaren for his decisions and selections. It was instinctive to throw my ticket at him."
Mr Davison, of Wheatley Hill, County Durham, who said he regretted his actions, was taken by stewards and interviewed by police.
He could face a banning order, although Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson will not ban the supporter from the Riverside stadium.
Mr Davison said: "I thank Steve Gibson for the gesture. It's something I regret, but that's the way I was feeling at the time."
He has supported Boro since his father, Andrew, took him to Ayresome Park when he was four: "I have been a fan for nearly 30 years. They are my life and it means so much to me."
