The family of a pensioner who died after a confrontation with a group of youths near his home have spoken of their shock.

Harry Cook, 73, began to feel unwell shortly after an alleged altercation with three youths near his home in West Bank Road, Ormesby, near Middlesbrough, on Saturday night.

He died despite attempts by his family and medical staff to revive him.

In a statement issued by Cleveland Police, Mr Cooks family said: The family are devastated to lose a loving husband, father and grandfather in such sudden and tragic circumstances and we fully support the police inquiry into the circumstances of his death.

Two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old who were arrested shortly after the incident have been released on police bail, a force spokesman said.

detectives are continuing with door-to-door inquiries and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Oliver, who is leading the investigation, said: Officers are anxious to trace anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed a confrontation.

At the present time we are piecing together exactly what happened in the run-up to Mr Cooks death. An incident room has been set up at Redcar police station.
