CYCLIST Josh Miers is on track to sporting glory after being selected for an elite training squad.

The 15-year-old Northallerton College student has been chosen for the British Cycling Talent Team - only a year after he started competing.

He will now be trained by professional coaches at the Manchester Velodrome - and is aiming to take part in the Olympic development programme.

Josh, of Ainderby Steeple, near Northallerton, took part in trials in December.

He said: "I am really pleased to have been selected.

"I'll be taking part in training camps every two months at which I'll learn how to ride on the track.

"Hopefully, I'll be chosen for the Olympic development programme, which is my aim, and I'll be able to take part in the 2012 games."

Joint head of sport at Northallerton College Ruth Curtis said: "We are all thrilled for Josh, who really deserves this success.

"He has come so far in a short space of time, but we are all confident he has a lot further to go in the world of cycling."
