YOUNGSTERS have created a ceramic mural to celebrate the 150th anniversary of their school.

Every child at Kirkby Fleetham Primary School, near Northallerton, helped to create the mural, which will be installed in the school.

The mural was made with the help of Angela Hall, from Thirsk-based arts charity Rural Arts.

She said: "Everyone in the school, both teachers and children, helped to make this mural which depicts the past and present of the school."

The charity recently opened a new arts venue in Thirsk. The first programme of arts events at The Old Courthouse is to be announced shortly.

Events starting in February include the first performance to be held at the venue.

The Lempen Puppet Theatre Company, which has appeared at festivals, theatres and schools across Europe, will perform the children's play The Shapechanger. It will be held on February 22 at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the event cost £3 for children and £5 for adults, and are available by calling Rural Arts on (01845) 526536.

The performance lasts for just under an hour and is suitable for children aged five and over.
