A FORMER post office has been given a new lease of life - as a drop-in centre.

Information is still the currency at the site in West Lane, Middlesbrough, but instead of dealing in letters and stamps, customers now will be given updates on a multi-million pound regeneration of their neighbourhood.

It will open on Tuesdays, from 1pm to 4pm, and Thursdays, from 9.30am to 1pm.

Joan Ford, chairwoman of the West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust, said: "We really want to make it as easy as possible for residents to come to us with any questions they may have. Opening the drop-in in West Lane gives residents support almost on their doorsteps.

"We hope local people make use of the drop-in, as our expert team of housing officers is there to help."

The initial proposals are for 138 two and three-bedroomed properties, including a mix of 25 houses and bungalows for rent from Endeavour Housing Association, six shared ownership homes and 107 homes for sale.

There will also be a different road layout, a play area and green open space.

Residents who are unable to visit the new drop-in centre can call the housing programme team on (01642) 819388.
