KASPER Schmeichel will make his final appearance in the Darlington goal tomorrow following Sam Russell's return to fitness.

Manager David Hodgson last night revealed Schmeichel will play against Mansfield Town, despite the availability of Russell.

Hodgson will give Russell another week to recover from the fractured fibula which has kept Quakers' first-choice goalkeeper out of action since November.

That will give Schmeichel a chance to bid farewell to the club which handed the young Dane his Football League debut.

The 19-year-old, on a week-to-week loan, is expected to rejoin Manchester City next week, providing Russell suffers no setbacks.

Hodgson has used no fewer than four goalkeepers - including midfielder Phil Stamp - during Russell's two-month lay-off.

But it is arguably Schmeichel who has caught the eye more than any of Russell's replacements, conceding just one goal in three appearances.

"I think Sam is fully fit, but there is no need to rush him back when we've got Kasper," said Hodgson.

"We'll give Sam a few more days to recover and Kasper will return to Manchester after the Mansfield game.

"I wouldn't like to bring Sam in, see him get injured and have to go out and get another keeper.

"I have no qualms with keeping Kasper because he has done exceptionally well for us."

Dmytro Pronevych and Juanjo have both returned to Scotland after training with Quakers this week.

However, Hodgson is keen to take another look at Australian teenager Chris Triantis.

The 18-year-old, who has also been training with North-East neighbours Middlesbrough, has made a favourable impression on the Quakers coaching staff.

"If Chris was 20 or 21 we would probably say no, but for what he's shown at 18, he is worth another look," revealed Hodgson, who is also tracking South African striker Dale Studzinski.

Meanwhile, Stamp, who suffered a stomach strain in the win at Oxford, should be fit in time to face the Stags tomorrow.

On-loan Everton striker Paul Hopkins could earn a recall tomorrow after starting on the bench at Oxford.

Hopkins joined Quakers with a view to a permanent move and Hodgson revealed talks will take place with the teenager next week.

"Hoppy is due to go back to Everton on February 4 so we will have a chat," said Hodgson.
