A DAY centre for people with learning disabilities has raised almost £3,000 in memory of a colleague who died from cancer last year.
Staff and members of the Aucklandgate Centre, in Bishop Auckland, took part in a five-mile walk to raise the money in memory of care assistant Alison Lenagh, who died of a rare form of cancer, at the age of 22, in August.
The group, with a great deal of support from Ms Lenagh's family, managed to raise £2,889.60, which they presented this week to Cancer Research UK.
Ms Lenagh's friend and colleague Nicola Simpson said: "Alison was a really nice girl and anyone who met her liked her.
"She really fought hard against the cancer but eventually it took her and everyone was devastated.
"We wanted to do something for her and that is why we chose to do the walk and donate the money to Cancer Research UK.''
