A SERVICE was held in the region yesterday to mark the Holocaust Memorial Day.
The packed service at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington, was also intended to celebrate people from all walks of life who have made a positive impact on their community.
The service took the theme of One Person Can Make a Difference.
Residents were asked to nominate inspirational people who they thought should attend the service.
The aim was to involve people who have stood up to bullying, taken up voluntary work or helped neighbours.
Children from St Augustine's and Reid Street primary school made information boards for the service, which was also attended by war veterans and their relatives.
Mayor of Darlington Councillor Stella Robson thanked everybody for coming.
She said: "It is vitally important that the terrible events of the Holocaust are not forgotten and the special theme of this service offered a good way for people from all walks of life to come together to remember."
