EIGHT affordable homes have been completed in a North Yorkshire market town.
The two-bedroom bungalows in Earl Edwin Drive, Richmond, were built on land formerly occupied by garages and donated to Tees Valley Housing Association in 2004.
Colin Dales, housing unit manager for the council, said: "Demolishing the garages has led to housing being created for 16 residents, who would otherwise still be on our waiting list or living in homes that were no longer appropriate for their needs."
After two hip operations, Raymond Allan, 78, was delighted to relocate to a new bungalow from his nearby house. "It suits me much better as there are no stairs to climb," he said.
The last of the garage site developments will be completed soon, creating eight new bungalows in Colburn and Brompton-on-Swale.
