A HUNT goes on to find whoever polluted a lake.
Swans had to be rescued from Hemlington Lake, Hemlington, Middlesbrough, last week, after engine oil was poured down a drain and was carried into the pool.
The Environment Agency put booms in place to limit the spread of the pollution, which it was feared had damaged reeds and put fish at risk.
A spokesman said: "It is a chargeable offence and if we had enough information we would not hesitate to prosecute.
"If people have information, or see anything, we would ask them to ring us on 0800 807060, and to keep a record of any vehicle registration plate - but not to get personally involved.''
A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "This was a minor incident and we don't believe there has been much effect on wildlife."
