POLICE are trying to call time on plans for a 24-hour drinks party on Teesside.

But last night, one of the organisers vowed to fight the bid to stop the event.

Paul Angus, events manager at the Blue nightspot in Middlesbrough, is seeking a temporary licence from Middlesbrough Council's licensing sub-committee.

Club M, the nightclub at the Tall Trees Hotel, Yarm, is staging a Good Greef hard house music event from 9pm on February 17 to 3am the following day.

The Blue bar is proposing to bus 350 revellers from the Tall Trees to its premises in Middlesbrough town centre for an 'after party' from 3am until 10am.

Cleveland Police say the town centre has reached saturation level in the number of bars and pubs and there is an "immense'' crime and disorder problem which puts a strain on police resources.

Marie Nevison, assistant legal advisor with Cleveland Police says: "Cleveland Police are of the opinion that the application will cause an increase in crime and disorder within Middlesbrough town centre.''

But Mr Angus said: "I am not best-pleased. It would be quite a setback financially for us if we could not put the event on, which is why I am going to put our case to the committee.

"We are told we can put on 24-hour events, so what is the point of offering us them if we can't put them on?

"I can't understand the objection.''
