A PENSIONER was last night recovering in hospital after being rescued unconscious from her blazing home.
The 77-year-old was found collapsed on the floor by firefighters who smashed their way into the smoke-filled house in Durham Road, Humbleton, Sunderland, at 1.25am yesterday.
The woman was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Her condition deteriorated, however, and she was transferred to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment.
Hospital staff last night said she was now in a stable condition.
The fire began in the ground-floor living room of her terraced house.
