A PROPERTY developer is being sought for a multi-million pound regeneration scheme.
Gateshead Council has begun its search for a developer to complete Gateshead Quays.
The land, between the Baltic art gallery and The Sage music centre, is among the most desirable development land in the region.
The site, of about 5.5 acres, is surrounded by buildings that have attracted 37 national and international building and design awards.
The council yesterday launched a campaign to find a firm with vision that can create a development worthy of the site's position.
It is expected to include housing and businesses.
Council leader Councillor Mick Henry said: "We see this as an area for people -for shoppers, for visitors, for people who live and work close by, or for people who are simply out for a stroll - so we would like to see a development that creates a pedestrian-friendly urban environment."
