THE opening of a new Darlington department store has been postponed until April, more than four months behind schedule.
The TK Maxx store, in Crown Street, was originally due to open before Christmas, but the opening was put back until March.
Now, it is predicted that the 31,000 sq ft shop will not open until mid-April.
The store, which will employ 50 people, is underneath the new Cornmill Shopping Centre multi-storey car park.
The 410-space car park opened just in time for the final Christmas shopping weekend after work was continually delayed by bad weather.
TK Maxx officials say that has had a knock-on effect on the opening date of their store.
A spokeswoman said: "We are now looking to open the store in mid-April. It has been put back because of delayed work on the multi-storey car park.
"There is no date at the moment for when the shop fitting will begin."
