FUNDRAISERS are to abseil from one of the most famous locations in the North-East.
Newcastle's Tyne Bridge will host the charity abseil to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Karen Redfearn, 34, from Norton, near Stockton, is tackling the 100ft drop as a tribute to her mum Peggy.
The former midwife worked at the University Hospital of North Tees for 30 years.
She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, known as Carcinoid Syndrome, and died from the disease last year, aged 63.
Miss Redfearn, a marketing and investment administrator, said: "Mum was a very strong women and she coped with cancer with utter determination and bravery.
"She dedicated her career to caring for other people through her work as a midwife.
"I think she would be very proud to know that I'm raising money to help Cancer Research UK as a tribute to her."
Anyone else wishing to take part on Sunday can call (0191) 2818288 or visit www. cancerresearchuk.org for more details. The abseil is open to anyone over 16. Training will be given and no experience is necessary.
A registration fee of £7.50 is required and participants are asked to raise at least £100.
