A NEW campus police officer has joined the ranks at a North-East university.
PC Angela McCourt has been assigned to the University of Sunderland on the tenth anniversary the safety scheme, which ensures staff and students feel safe and secure.
The scheme means that the university has a police officer solely patrolling its two campuses.
The 26-year-old, who has been a police officer for almost three years, said: "I am looking forward to working with everyone at the university.
"I want staff and students to know who I am and feel they can approach me with any problems they might be experiencing."
The university's campus police initiative was launched in October 1996, and at the time was only the second such scheme in the country.
Since its introduction, campus crime has been reduced by 75 per cent.
