A BUSINESS owner yesterday called for action to be taken to prevent motorists speeding in a Darlington street.
Stan Howes, who runs the Cybertronic alarms firm in Station Road, spoke out after the shop was damaged when a car careered into it.
The accident occurred late on Tuesday - and Mr Howes said it was the latest in a string of crashes he had seen in 27 years running the business.
"As you turn off North Road into Station Road, it is not a 90-degree bend, it's more of a curve.
"People take the bend at high speeds and go along the road at 40mph," he said.
"I would like to see some form of traffic calming measures - bollards on the pavement or sleeping policemen."
He said he had raised the matter with borough council transport chiefs and was hoping for action.
A council spokeswoman said yesterday: "If someone tells the council about areas they believe could benefit from traffic-calming measures, we will look into it.
"There are various criteria that any road has to meet before it can have such measures.
"If those criteria are met, the road would go onto a list of schemes, with the highest priorities dealt with first."
