A GROUP of young people from north Durham gave a presentation to a panel of judges in London yesterday.
Derwentside District Council is one of only 11 across the country to be shortlisted for Beacon status for its positive youth work.
The focus is on its award-winning Spice programme, with an impressive record of working with thousands of young people.
If it gains Beacon status, the council will receive £50,000 to continue its work engaging young people in real decision making in their local communities.
The mood is optimistic following very positive feedback from a Beacon panel visit to Stanley in November.
