A film documenting the experiences and views mainly of women asylum seekers settled in the North-East, and the effects on their children, is the showpiece of a conference today.
The conference, Disappearing Faces, has been organised by children's charity Barnardo's in the North-East to highlight the increase in its work supporting vulnerable families and women and children who are here alone.
Some of them have been traumatised by experiences in their own countries and the wait to hear if they are to be granted asylum, as well the racism and abuse they can face, that contribute to their problems and emotional distress.
It also focuses on women who want to go to college or work, but are unable to.
The conference is at the Royal Station Hotel, Newcastle, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
