A GROUP of pupils left their classroom yesterday to take part in a clean-up project.
The students from Seaham School of Technology visited Seaham Town Park, where they joined forces with youth workers from Groundwork East Durham and the District of Easington Youth Forum for an organised litter pick.
The young people, who are members of the school's Motiv8 group, which is run by the Groundwork Youth Workers from the environmental regeneration charity, were all anxious to play a community role in their area.
The group, which frequently takes part in environmental schemes, worked hard during the day to clear up litter and rubbish which had been left lying in the park and the surrounding area.
Cliffy Remmer, youth worker from Groundwork East Durham said: "It is great to see the young people taking a pride in their community and wanting to give something back.
"We are very proud of them.''
