A guide has been published to attract visitors from Britain and around the world to the region.
The NewcastleGateshead Guide 2006/07 is available at 800 UK Tourist Information Centres and major entry points to the North-East.
Produced by the NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI), it includes accommodation and entertainment in the area and showcases attractions and events.
Additions this year include a "what to do in 48 hours" itinerary and an improved travel and maps section.
Nicola Short, NGI head of marketing, said: "NewcastleGateshead has completely transformed itself into a leading European city break destination and we work closely with our local industry partners to spread this message."
