SIX bungalows in Howden-le-Wear which have stood empty for several months may soon be bought by a developer.

The buildings, in Hargill Haven, are in a state of disrepair and have attracted drug dealers and become a magnet for anti-social behaviour.

But the problem may soon be at an end, as an unnamed company is believed to be interested in purchasing and renovating the properties.

At a public meeting at Howden-le- Wear Community Centre, newly- elected Wear Valley District councillor John Bailey said: "At the moment, there is someone interested in buying these properties.

"Somebody is in the process of buying these bungalows, which might help Howden."
