Groups receive council funds: COMMUNITY groups have been given a financial boost. Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council has agreed the awards to Saltburn Cricket Club, £140 towards its fireworks displa.
Take Heart Support Group, £250 towards renewing equipment used in classes at Marske Leisure Centre; Saltburn Community and Arts Association, £1,000 towards repairs and maintenance of the association's building. PRAYER WEEK: The annual week of prayer for Christian unity started at St Mark's Church, Marske, with more than 30 people of several denominations attending a candlelit service of chanting prayers and songs made famous by monks at Taize, France. The week continues at churches throughout the country until Wednesday.
NEW COURSES: Askham Bryan College, Guisborough, is introducing a range of short courses. They include computing - using the Internet, e-mail and Internet shopping - an introduction to sketching, watercolours, cardmaking, upholstery and furniture restoration.
