JOEL Porter yesterday marked his long-awaited return to action with a goal.
The Hartlepool United striker, last season's player of the year, has been sorely missed this season after suffering a knee injury.
He has not played since the play-off final last May but, on the first game of his comeback, he scored as Pool's reserves drew 2-2 at Scarborough.
Porter was introduced at half-time and was soon on target, lifting the ball over the keeper after turning in the penalty area.
Eifion Williams, who missed last weekend's draw with Tranmere with a back injury, was also on target, levelling the scores with a close-range volley.
Porter was withdrawn in the closing minutes but he will be training this morning. He won't be involved in Saturday's trip to Swansea City but could be in the squad for the important home game with Blackpool a week on Saturday, with fellow striker Adam Boyd also hoping to play some part in that game.
After going since December 10 without victory, the return of Porter and Boyd is just what boss Martin Scott needs.
Steve Agnew, Pool's reserve team boss, said: "Joel's finish showed just what we have been missing this season. Making his return was a big test so we are delighted he came through it.
"Hopefully he can go on from here.''
* Pool fans travelling to Swansea have until 4.30pm today to buy their tickets.
