COMMUNITY groups are in the dough after being awarded grants totalling almost £120,000 by the charitable arm of a bakery.
The Greggs Trust has given £45,000 to the Delves Lane Community Association, in Consett, towards salary costs over the next three years.
Consett Churches Detached Youth Project, which offers activities and educational workshops for young people between the ages of 12 and 25 in Consett and outlying villages, gets £22,500 towards salary costs over the next three years.
The Pelton Fell Community Group, in Chester-le-Street, which runs various courses for local people, as well as organising activities and trips for young people, is getting £21,495 towards salary costs over the next two years.
Finally, St Simons Community Project, in South Shields, which provides job search facilities and runs parent and toddler and women's development groups, receives £30,000 towards running costs over the next three years.
Jenni Wagstaff, manager of Greggs Trust, said: "We have supported St Simons Community Project, in South Shields, and Consett Churches Detached Youth Project in the past and are delighted to be able to help them once more."
She added: "Delves Lane Community Association and Pelton Fell Community Group both offer vital services to local residents."
