Husband-and-wife team Neal and Fiona Bullock have opened a restaurant in the region.
The couple have opened The Cook's Room, in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire.
Mr Bullock said: "We've been searching for a suitable property since we returned to the area over two years ago."
Mr Bullock was head chef at Judges Hotel, near Yarm.
"The main dining area provides us with the ideal space in which to deliver simple, brasserie-style food in a warm and welcoming environment," said Mrs Bullock.
Mr Bullock started his culinary career at the Hilton Hotel, in Glasgow, the city's first five-star hotel, which was followed by stints at Slaley Hall, in Northumberland, and Fourways Hotel, in Bermuda.
Returning to Scotland, he joined the Malmaison Group before taking a post at the Michelin-starred Cameron House, in Loch Lomond.
