PROPOSALS for a recycling centre on the edge of Tow Law look likely to be blocked by planners.
Brothers Ivan and Philip Anderson want to open a waste transfer station at Thornley Pit House Farm, which they say will create ten jobs.
But officers at Durham County Council are advising planning committee members to turn down their application when they meet on Wednesday morning, claiming that the site is in the wrong place and would harm the character of the surrounding area.
Tow Law Town Council and ten residents have objected to the plans but Wear Valley District Council and the Environment Agency have raised no concerns.
Ivan Anderson said that some people had the wrong perception of the proposal.
He said: "I am trying to do something for Tow Law but people have got the wrong idea.
"Some people think it is going to be a landfill site but it is not. It will be landscaped and screened with fencing and conifers, and it won't be seen.
"If it is turned down this time we will try again."
Town council chairman Terry Batson said: "We want to support development in Tow Law and this would create much-needed jobs.
"But the public are not happy with the case that was presented and the town council reached their decision on that basis."
