SPORTING achievements by young people from schools and colleges across Teesside will be recognised at a ceremony tomorrow.
Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren will present the awards at the 2006 Sports Council's sporting achievement awards for Teesside schools at Northfield School and Specialist Sports College, Billingham.
Certificates will be presented to young people who have reached a high level of excellence in their own particular sporting field and participated at national level.
There are more than 70 nominations, covering sports from athletics to table tennis. Four young people will be chosen to receive an award known as the Elaine Gray Trophy.
The Great British long jump record holder, Chris Tomlinson, who hails from Nunthorpe School in Middlesbrough, is a former winner of the award.
David Youldon, headteacher at Northfield School and Specialist Sports College, is chairman of the Teesside School Sports Council and will host the event.
Mr Youldon said: "We have a great selection of sporting talent across Teesside, and this annual event is growing in numbers and enthusiasm.
"Not only is it a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the young people, but it is also a chance to thank the committed teachers, coaches and parents involved in supporting these talented youngsters.
"It is right and fitting that the sporting achievements of young people is recognised and we look forward to a great evening."
