A man has been charged in connection with an investigation into suspected cross-country drug runs between Liverpool and Teesside.

Officers from Cleveland Police's organised crime unit arrested the 26-year-old Anfield man on Merseyside.

Last night, he was charged with possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He will appear at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court today.

Detective Inspector Derek Carter said the arrest of the man, who has not been named, came as part of a long-running inquiry into the suspected shipment of heroin and crack cocaine to Teesside.

"Operation Worsfield was set up to target individuals travelling into our area to sell drugs in the run-up to Christmas," said Det Insp Carter.

And he added: "There is a second suspect in respect of Operation Worsfield. We know who he is and we expect to to arrest him very soon."
