SPORTS coaches at a County Durham school are making a splash as they brush up on their lifeguard skills.
Seven members of staff at Barnard Castle School have undergone training with the Royal Life Saving Society to secure the National Rescue Award for swimming teachers and coaches.
Staff were taught a number of water safety and life-saving techniques.
Head of sport Fiona Cover said: "All our sports staff are currently working toward the National Rescue Award and updating their previous qualifications to ensure the safety of all of our pupils at all times."
Deputy head Oliver Marlow said: "We need to ensure pupils can develop their talents in the utmost safety, so training our staff to the highest standard is absolutely essential."
